Hand-painted porcelain
The history of decorating porcelain by hand painting goes back deep into the past and is almost as old as the production of porcelain itself. "The Secret", which uses fire to turn kaolin, feldspar and quartz into a white, solid and transparent material. It is the decoration by hand-painting that enhances the value of porcelain and gives it the hallmark of originality.
It is a high quality craftsmanship and at the same time an expression of extraordinary talent, creativity and imagination. This fusion of professional principles, technical skill and artistic originality still has its pristine Renaissance charm.
Hand painting is used to decorate both porcelain miniatures and large vases and amphorae, often made up of several parts. Depending on the size and shape of the product, but also on the customer's wishes, different motifs are chosen.
Not only landscape and still life paintings, floral motifs, portraits, architecture are also popular.
Special finely ground naglazur ceramic paints, precious metal preparations, enamels, fluxes, oils and salts are used for painting. The paints are applied with fine brushes, made from animal hair, in azure layers in a precise order. After each layer, the product undergoes a slow cooling firing process. The number of firings varies according to the complexity of the motif and additional decoration. The firing temperature gradually decreases. The whole production process is very demanding and takes several weeks.
Nowadays several renowned foreign porcelain manufactories are proud of decorating porcelain with hand painting. Among the most famous are the Meissen Manufactory, the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory from St. Petersburg, the Hungarian Manufactory Herend, and Richard Ginori from Italy.
