Old Forms

For the exhibition in the Gallery Neumannka, held from 31 January to 25 March 2020, Studio Wrinkle in collaboration with the Rudolf Kämpf manufactory is preparing the Old Forms collection, which deals with the recycling of old and worn-out production moulds.

"Our work has always been based on handmade products, so it's a great honour for us to collaborate on this project with Rudolf Kämpf, a Czech manufactory that still follows handmade porcelain production methods. We took their worn-out moulds and created new shapes that still kind of reverently resemble the old ones," says Aylin Irfanova, the author of the Old Forms project.

What is the end of the production process for all ceramic casting processes is the beginning of this project. When you want to shape porcelain by hand casting, you will most likely need a plaster mold. However, you can only use this for a limited amount of pouring. Unfortunately, there is no relevant way to how to recycle plaster yet, so you are creating more waste. This project takes an old worn out plaster mould and by drilling away the worn out layer, creates a new mould and a new shape to use. Thus, the final piece is a embodiment of the beauty of the recycling process."For us, this project is all about respect for the material. We try to create as little clutter as possible with it and be happy with small steps, because all big changes require small steps," the artist further mentions.

Neumann Center for Architecture and Design

The Neumannka Centre is a gallery, a design studio, a space for lectures, events and workshops, a venue for cultural events, and a retail outlet focused on quality design. The Neumannka Centre is an attempt to bring together everything related to quality architecture and design and the environment in one place. The building in which the centre is being built is located in the historical centre of Prachatice, in Neumann Street /named after St. Jan Nepomuk Neumann, who lived in one of the buildings in the street.

Rudolf Kämpf

The Czech manufactory Rudolf Kampf is located in the village of Loučky in the heart of the Karlovy Vary Region, famous for its deposits of high-quality kaolin. For more than 100 years it has been creating high quality hard porcelain. Rudolf Kämpf prides itself on handmade porcelain and thus offers a unique production. It is the only factory in the Czech Republic where porcelain is still processed in this way. This is also linked to the exclusivity of the products. The Rudolf Kämpf porcelain manufactory is usually the origin of limited series or unique specimens. For the Old Forms project, they donated the forms formerly shaping the Sonata collection to Studio Wrinkle.Studio Wrinkle

The duo of Prague-based artists consists of Aylin Irfanova and Helena Patelis. Their work is characterized by a conceptual overlap and a return to traditional production methods of porcelain objects. Among other things, together they produced the Mascots collection, which was exhibited at the Mint Gallery in London, and created porcelain figurines for Helena Dařbujánová's toy machine called Mostly Wine.
